You're talking about something that happened when there was no social media, no world wide web, no mobile phones, not even fax machines (for public use).

All communications with potential buyers would have been either by mail or pre-call centre telephone, and each would have been pitched so as to play on fears of losing what many, quite rightly, saw as "theirs", if not legally, then certainly morally.

Odds-on all calls & letters were timed to arrive on the Monday after a home game, leaving many with an almost two week gap before they got the chance to chat with their peers about it; two weeks of isolated worry and concern...

Playing devils advocate here but how about they instead stood with the masses and refused to buy one thus leading to the complete failure of the scheme in the first place?

Yeah we was on the pitch at the Everton game (0-2)... nice little run around in the centre circle ... woke up the next day and found our mug shots on the back page of the Sunday Mirror...

That's more than a bit unfair. I know two families with bonds and your description of bondholders is way of the mark.
If I'd laid out £2000 to ensure I kept a pair of seats that had been in my family for 40 years and in return the club offered various privileges in perpetuity, then I'd get the arse-ache if they started trying to chip away at them. The club have no right to remove any of these privileges.
If the owners don't want bond holders then they should try to buy them out.

Re: Bond Holders
I was old enough to remember the protests but too young to really understand what they were about. It was a shit, I'll conceived scheme that inevitably fell flat on it's arse, but a great investment for those who took advantage of it.

I dare say an equivalent offer today would have significant take up.

Wow what a true supporter.

Re: Bond Holders
Bob the cap (RIP) had a bond, so don't forget that all of them will still not be walking amongst us either.

They got a reduction off of their season tickets for 10 years I think.

Re: Bond Holders
2 friends have Bonds and probably haven't been to an away game for over 10 years, so I'm sure out of the 700, they don't all get used as it also depends on if you know someone who'd want a ticket for every game and are happy to go alone, as none of their mates will have enough points!!

Probably mostly bought by older people too (both I know are at least 10 years older than me in their fifties), as I would have had to get a loan out back in the day to get one as a teenager.

Re: Bond Holders
Still riles that while we realised the virtual extortion going on and got on the pitch to protest there were still a few weasels and snakes that actually bought the things.

I'm sure I read on here that they were getting the collective arse about the club reigning in the preferential treatment as the move to the LS approached. Someone I know at the club told me that Bondholders are typically like a group of spoilt kids.

I know I'd be embarrassed if my Dad had bought one. A proper "What did you do in the War Daddy?" moment for a West Ham supporter.

As I recall, they also gave you an annual discount on your ST & weren't they pitched at £500, £750 & £1,000?
